TOSKO (Mexico City, 1973)
Graphic Designer and Artist.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Universidad Nuevo Mundo and Master’s degree in Strategic Design and Innovation from Universidad Iberoamericana. Over the course of 25 years, Tosko has developed a prolific career as a designer, leading him to undertake projects in identity, packaging design, and editorial design through Cartel Comunicación Visual and Gorila Project, his own branding agency founded in 2005.
From his earliest works as a sculptor—nearly thirty years ago—and throughout his career, Tosko has nurtured an artistic curiosity and vocation that have led him to also explore acrylic and oil painting, as well as photography, thus enriching his design work and vice versa. Although his sources of inspiration are varied, they almost invariably point to a pronounced geometric character in his solutions, playing with the exploration of boundaries, perception, and the concept of the (in)finite.
In terms of his artistic side, Tosko has kept his production and exhibition of pieces within the private sphere, with a few exceptions including exhibitions at Galería Mizrahi in Polanco, and the 303 Art Gallery in Valle de Bravo. Likewise, his work has been published by various media and platforms, with the most recent being The Core magazine of Design, Architecture, and Interior Design.
ENSEMBLE
The sculptures shown in this catalog are part of Ensemble, a series started by Tosko in 2005 that reflects a pinnacle of maturation and evolution in his work. The pieces are based on experimentation with forms, sizes, materials, colors, and the use of contemporary technologies that reflect a multiplicity of sensory possibilities.
Ensemble is an exploration of the possibilities of form and matter. Following the trail opened by fractal art, Tosko proposes a series of pieces that, rather than a series, could be called a multiplicity in becoming. In other words, the sculptures that make up Ensemble are not meant to be viewed or arranged in a single way. Different combinations, modules, mini towers, towers, or totems can be created with various materials, sizes, colors, and finishes. The potential forms of these sculptures are, like fractal figures, infinite.
